WWHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT AND PROGRAMS DOES CRPIS USE TO ANALYZE DATA?

The Coulee Region Paranormal Investigation Society uses a variety of equipment in our research work. Mostly, we are concerned with gathering as much evidence as we can and in order to do that, we require detailed scientific information that will support any and all theories about what was being captured on film, digital voice recorders, cassette recorders, 35mm cameras, digital cameras and environmental information.

When working with EVP's, less is more in that we want to preserve the original recordings without modifying them too much. We want to keep the originals as prestine and untouched as we can and we want to have a copy or two that we can manipulate and work with to make the recording as clear as possible. The copies we manipulate are the ones we share with the public and the originals are tucked away safely for future study and left alone.

When working with EVP's, the CRPIS uses various software including the following:

Adobe Audition

College of England London Speech Pathology Software

WASP130 spectral audio analysis software

Speech Tools 2.2 (Several programs in one package including Speech Analyzer, Phonology Assistant and AudioCon)

Cool Edit Pro

Audacity

Wavosaur

EXP Audio Editor

Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer

SPECLAB

NCH Swiftsound Record Pad

MSU Denoiser

Oscillometer XZ

NCH Swiftsound Wave Pad

Wave Show

Sonogram version 248

All of these programs add their own special qualities to our analysis of audio. Some allow us to tranfer sound files from one type to another, others provide us with multiple spectral analysis that can be printed off and presented alongside the recordings while still others allow us to modify and enhance the recordings.

When it comes to photo analysis, we again have an arsenal of pc tools that we use to get the best from all the photos and videos that we use. Some of our favorite programs include the following:

Image J (top notch photo software that is free!)

Corel Paint Shop Pro X

Corel Photo-Paint X3

GIMP For Windows

FastStone Image Viewer ( Image organization and so much more!-Freeware)

We have other tools that we use from time to time but they are too numerous to mention. It all depends ultimately on your own preferences and how comfortable you feel using them that will decide what you like to use best and what works best for you. There are tons of great freeware out there that get the job done and then some. Write to us if you need some recommendations beyond those given here.

When it comes to actual equipment, we at the CRPIS are constantly striving to add new technologies and new equipment to our arsenal. Some of  the equipment we develop in-house or in collaboration with other groups and individuals. We are currently working on an updated SPIRICOM device to test its abilities and do further research to determine if, as the original documents purport, the receiver determines the the level of success in making contact.

The CRPIS has developed a working DEVA unit first brought to light by the OKCGC. The DEVA stands for Dust Elimination Video Apparatus. Basically, the DEVA allows us to use our NightShot ready video cameras with an external IR source while the camera is encased in a closed area which is dust free and therefore helps to eliminate about 99% of the out of focus dust  contaminants found in videos using NightShot technology. Was that a genuine orb or just dust near the camera? Use a DEVA and you won't have to wonder again.

The CRPIS is also working on building and/or obtaining a system that will monitor the environmental variables and record evp and video remotely at locations. We feel that removing ourselves from suspect environs and allowing the equipment to record evidence may be a better way in some cases to capture the phenomena and make better assessments of what is going on and causes for the phenomena. To that end, we are working on building an appartus based on the A.R.C.A.D.I.A. (Analog Reading Computer Aided Digital Input Analyzer) system developed by OKCGC and Ghost Gadgets. The system takes in information through various sensors attached to an analog to digital information converter and software on a laptop allows for real-time monitoring of environmental variables. This should allow us to see correlations between the occurance of phenomena and anomalies in the environment which can be extremely beneficial to our research.

The CRPIS is also working on home-built devices we are pioneering such as a laser listening device which will allow us to listen to any transmission of voice over some distance by hearing the transmission on a point to point laser beam. This is a slight variation of a similar system used by the military to communicate point to point over long distances using lasers. This Spectral Laser Listening Apparatus should allow us to set up in a hallway for example and record EVP in real time. More testing is necessary but we think that this device holds promise.

CRPIS members are also working on various devices for field work such as humidity sensors, light meters, a Kirlian photographic unit, a subtle energy detector, remote temperature sensors, voice stress analyzers and Scalar Electrostatic Gradiometer. We are also working with a special type of paper that changes color when subjected to temperature changes as a kind of detection system that is quiet but would alert us to the presense of spirit in an area. We are also working with a device to detect ultrasound / infrasound frequencies in an area. This will allow us to accurately determine areas of high ultrasound which in turn can help us to associate what is being reported with a naturally explainable phenomena.

As we develop these plans into tangible devices and conduct testing, we will make them available to all who wish to use them. The free sharing of knowledge and information is what CRPIS is about and we encourage all who study the paranormal to dedicate themselves to that cooperative spirit. The knowledge we stand to gain from discovering the truth has an impact on all of makind and so should be shared freely and not sold or bartered for.
