Is it possible to actually hear the voices of the dead? Can those who have transcended the physical really communicate with us on a level and in a way that we can easily understand? These are just two of the questions surrounding the paranormal phenomena known as EVP's. EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomena is not new, far from it, Thomas Edison began experimenting with a device that he called the Spirit Phone which he believed would allow electrical communication with the dead much as telephones were allowing communication over vast distances. Tragically for the potential of this discovery, Edison died before he could bring the device to life.
After Edison and during the World Wars, strange voices and radio transmissions were heard by the various armies fighting across the globe. More so in World War II, evp's were being picked up by both allied and axis forces. Each was unable to identify the source of the voices or the reason behind them. Needless to say, these strange transmissions caught the attention of various governments including the United States and Russia who began extensive programs to study the paranormal and in particular, the afterlife and spirits as well as ESP, etc. Later, these developments would in turn generate research work into such avenues of paranormal studies as cryptozoology, remote viewing and other disciplines outside the normal realm of mainstream science.
In 1959, Friedrich Jurgenson, a painter and opera singer from Sweden, was recording bird songs in Norway when his recordings picked up something truly odd. Among the natural sounds in the recorded tape was the voice of a man who appeared to be giving a lecture of sorts on the bird species native to Norway and in Norwegian! Not so odd you say? Well consider then that there was not another soul around where Jurgenson was conducting his birdsong taping when the voice was recorded. Even more extrodinary was the fact that other voices on this same tape called Jurgenson by name, including one voice which called him by a pet name which was used by his mother. He would later confirm that he believed that the voice was in fact that of his deceased Mother. Jurgenson went on to continue studying the phenomena and even wrote a book about his experiences called, "Voice Transmissions With The Deceased"
Where Jurgenson left off, Dr. Konstantin Raudive picked up and began developing new techniques and new equipment to further enhance the communication capabilities along with the quality of the voices being recorded. Raudive died and yet those who had worked with the good doctor began receiving communications from him on everything from telephones to record players and televisions. It appeared as if the doctor was not content to cease his work on this phenomena and was determined to continue trying to improve communications even from the other side
There is simply too much information to delve into with the space we have here but we suggest visiting the following links for some insightful and educational information on the subject. Click on any link below to be taken to the web site.
World ITC (Instrumental Trans Communication)
American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena (AAEVP)
The one thing that can truly be said for Electronic Voice Phenomena is that it is one of the best, albeit contentous pieces of evidence we can obtain for evidence of an existence beyond the physical. The skeptics have tried to debunk it but still it comes back and stronger than before. Stray radio signals cannot be received that give answers to questions in real time or give specifics to what is occurring at that time. Disembodied voices can be strange and they can be unusual. It can make your skin go cold and it can make your hair stand on end. Why? Because you never knew that such a thing could exist before. It is alien, foreign to most because we have been taught since our earliest years of formal education that ghosts, spirits and the paranormal was not something of substance and fact, but myth and fantasy. When things that are contrary to our normal "world view" in our brains, our brain does the only thing it can and that is rebel against what is being encountered. The years of having the wonder and child-like ability to perceive things not normally seen beaten out of us causes us to shun what we are receiving and to treat it as something foreign to be ignored.
But the funny thing about those who have crossed is that they have all the time in the world and they don't mind repeating and trying to get you to listen no matter how much you want to tune them out. Sometimes we capture conversations amongst themselves, sometimes we capture answers to questions asked. At other times, we capture voices of people unseen commenting on something we are doing or asking us for something or to do something. Whatever the meaning and whatever the reason, there can be no denying that this phenomena is not just someone picking patterns out of white noise or somebody hearing something that isn't really there or stray radio signals bouncing back to Earth from somewhere out in the Ionosphere. There is something to this phenomena and although it would please us greatly to announce that we have been right and our theories about the source were correct all along, there is still not enough scientific evidence to support that assumption................yet.
Do the dead communicate with us? Are the dead not really "dead"? Are the spirits or the residual energy of those who have crossed always around us and able to communicate thoughts and ideas into discernable words we can hear? We don't yet know the answer but one thing is clear and that is that people around the world are recording voices that seem to exhibit signs of knowledge in real time, answers in real time and that make comments in real time and we don't know why or how. It would appear on the face of it that the "dead" aren't really "dead" at all, just simply changed and they want to make contact with us so maybe we should just ....sit.....quietly......and......listen.
We obtained this recording in 2006 in the fall outside a site that our group has been using as a field training site. It is an old cemetery that dates back to the earliest days of our city. Many prominant citizens of our state and the nation are interred within this cemetery. This site has always been very productive for us and that is why we utilize the wonderful spirits here in our outdoor investigation training. They have become, for lack of a better term, instructors to our new team members and they help us to prepare our teams for the field.
This recording is of clearly a female voice. At first, we did not understand the connection of what was being said with what was happening at the time but we think we might have it now. One of our members had accidently shut their jacket in the car door when exiting the vehicle. Was this female spirit watching us and commenting on something occuring in real time?
This was obtained just after the EVP above on that same tape. Apparently, we were being greeted on our return to the site. Could this be the same voice as the EVP above or another female spirit in attendance?
We are unsure of what exactly what this child was trying to communicate to us in this evp. It almost reminds one of a child taunting or being very excited about something. As of this date, we have not been able to decipher exactly what is being said. If anyone listening to this recording would like to try their hand at breaking it down for us, the effort would be appreciated.
This recording was obtained while the Director and one other member were at the site we have labelled "Site 1A". This is a very old site and has been very productive for us in regards to photographic evidence and evp's. This is a classic example of a spirit offering an unsolicitated opinion regarding comments made in real time. The voice was recorded while the Director was using a microcassette recorder to make voice notes on the site survey that was being conducted.
This recording was obtained at Site 1A during the day. It was a warm day but overcast and thunderstorms were expected later on that evening. We are uncertain of the meaning of this recording as nothing of special note happened on this day but you will hear a child's voice. Listen carefully to what is said.
This is an unusual recording in that this voice immediately followed the child saying sorry above. It definitely sounds like a female voice calling out the name of a child. Listen and see if you can hear what the name is. Remarkably, there is a headstone in this cemetery belonging to a young boy with this name who died at age 6. That is assuming that we have the name correct from the recording.
This is one of several recordings that were obtained on a night when all the conditions came together to provide the best atmosphere for interaction with spirits. There was a full moon in two days, a geomagnetic storm, solar x-rays were registering an X class flare and there was a threat of thunderstorms. This recording was obtained by the Director's wife in response to a comment she made. She was not looking for a response but apparently this spirit felt compelled to give one. Amy commented that the couple who had been married for many years, was probably very happy. The answer is somewhat humorous.
This recording was obtained on the same night as the above recording and at the same location by the Director's wife, Amy. A train nearby had started to pull out of the rail yard and as it did, the cars slammed together as the slack was taken up between them. The result was a thunderous crashing sound that was very loud and very unnerving. Amy said outloud, "Ooh, that was scary". Listen to the ensuing conversation of three and possibly four voices that were commenting on what she had just said. This recording is proof that spirits are quite capable of not only seeing what we do in real time but also expressing opinions and emotions such as compassion, even when not asked to do so.
The Man in the Pioneer Cemetery
This voice was recorded last fall in a local cemetery that is quite old and contains the interrments of many pioneers and founders of the city in which the cemetery is located. This voice seemed to want to get some message across but never completed its thought other than to say what you will hear in this recording.
This was a very interesting voice to say the least. It was obtained by CRPIS member Adam at his place of work. He brought a digital voice recorder with him to work just to experiment with the possibility of having spirits in the environment. His efforts were rewarded with this evp. Notice, in particular, the echoing harmonics at the beginning of the voice transmission.
This voice was recorded by a former CRPIS member at his place of work. He said that no one was near his desk at the time of this recording and he did not recognize the voice. As a side note, this business was in one of the older businesses in downtown La Crosse and it would not surprise us if this was a spirit just tired of all the noise of the workday world.
This voice was recorded by me in a Catholic cemetery before we were denied any further access by the local diocease. It was recorded by Mark Waldenberger and happened on a fall day in 1996. The recording begins and you hear what sounds like a great wind starting up and coming closer to the microphone and when the wind sound peaks, you hear a breathy voice say something and then it and the wind dies away. It was believed that the voice said "grandson" at first but later analysis revealed an even more chilling message. Chilling in that Mark was the only one at the cemetery on this sunny and cool fall day and yet this voice apparently meant this message for Mark. Even more bizzarre is the fact that the hill where this voice was recorded was near to where Mark's great-grandparents were buried. He never knew them and had no idea that they were interred in this cemetery!
Voice In The Cemetery-Cleaned and Isolated
This is a version of the above EVP cleaned and isolated so you can hear the voice better. To say that the message can be construed as chilling is an understatement.
Voice In Oak Grove Cemetery-Male
Yet another voice recorded in Oak Grove Cemetery. This voice was actually comical in a way because here again, it was recorded around the time that one of our members did something that can only be described as a Funniest Videos Moment. Listen to what this spirit says, again in real time about something that just happened.
Yet another recording obtained in Oak Grove on a full moon night last year. This was obtained around the now notorious Easton Crypt which appears to have some draw on activity in this cemetery.
